Ecofriendly Textile Industry Effluent Treatment At present, MCRC is carrying out a study, to degrade and to decolorize hazardous effluents from dyeing and textile industries using locally isolated microbial consortia in and around dyeing units. This study of cost effective and energy effective biodegradation leads to an easy way of socio-economic treatment of effluents from dyeing units by biological means and to reuse the effluents for irrigation purposes This project is being funded by Tamilnadu Pollution Contron Board and significant results are encouraging further progress and final package of practice will be developed and made available for societal use in near future.
Highlights Among 15 bacterial consortia viz BC1 to BC15, seven consortia have been characterized as efficient for dye decolorization under optimum pH, temperature and media composition. Scale up study under field conditions has been started and is progressing well. Immobilization of inoculum were studied at laboratory conditions shows the use of inoculum for continuous treatment of dye effluent repeatedly. Sulphate reducing bacterial isolates has been acclimatized in 100 ppm of dye containing effluent under laboratory conditions
