Hydraulic RAM
Pump
HRP is a self-acting pump,
which utilises the natural kinetic energy of falling water to lift
part of it to greater elevation. MCRC’s team of expertise adopted the
Hydraulic Ram Pump (HRP) technology to help people in remote hill
areas. This technology is being applied for sustained water supply to
tribal population in Karantamalai hills in Dindigu District through
suitable engineering upgradation.HRP meets the need of people at
higher elevation for water available at lower levels without the
premium involved in expensive and energy-intensive technology.
Advantages of HRP
-
Capacity to lift water to a
greater height. It uses the kinetic energy of water, so no external
energy is required.
-
Can also pump water from
rivers and canals for irrigation if sufficient gradient available.
-
Cost-effective compared to
other similar devices. Can be fabricated locally, with easily
available market materials.
-
Does not require high
technical knowledge to fabricate and install.
-
Only two moving parts hence
less maintenance and tt is non-polluting and environment friendly.
-
This technology is being
upgraded by research on design to increase the efficiency. This
technology is being applied for sustained water supply to tribal
population in Karanthamalai hills.
