Phototrophic Bacteria

Research on phototrophic bacteria was started in 1979 at MCRC. These bacteria have been found to be useful in several processes, some of which have been highlighted.

  • Biological hydrogen

  • Augmentation of biogas quality and quantity

  • Removal of heavy metals

  • Production of eco-friendly paper

  • Enrichment of tea flavour

  • Good role in natural indigo dye extraction

  • Food grade pigments production
